Record 31.8 million on food stamps - Mar. 5, 2009

The number of people receiving food stamps has reached record levels - Record 31.8 million on food stamps - Mar. 5, 2009

Along with the national numbers, Massachusetts is reporting significant increases in the numbers of people applying for food stamps for the first time and, of even greater concern, applying for extensions of benefits.

As many as 20,000 new applications are coming in each month, along with an average of 18,000 requests for extensions."

How can you feed a family of five, if you’re low-income? More important, can this family eat well?"
